The video shows the Cybercab driving by itself (there’s no steering wheel or pedals inside the vehicle).
The company first unveiled its Cybercab at its “We, Robot” event in Los Angeles, showcasing self-driving rides at Warner Bros. studios.
The Cybercab is a two-passenger electric car designed for full autonomy, meaning it has no steering wheel or pedals. Its look is inspired by Tesla’s Cybertruck, but it’s smaller and sleeker, suited for city travel. It comes with butterfly doors, has no rear window, and doesn’t have side mirrors. Inside, a large touchscreen allows passengers to interact with the car.
Tesla’s Cybercab runs on Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, aiming to reach Level 4 autonomy—meaning it can operate without human help under certain conditions. This technology relies on cameras and AI trained on extensive driving data. Tesla also plans for wireless charging, which could be just as fast as regular charging when fully developed.
Elon Musk has hinted at an Uber-like setup for Cybercabs, where owners could rent them out as autonomous taxis when they’re not in use. This network could offer rides at a low operational cost of about 20 cents per mile since there wouldn’t be a driver. Musk even suggests that owners could manage small fleets of Cybercabs, similar to overseeing a “flock.”
Tesla aims to start Cybercab production by 2026, with a price goal of under $30,000 to make self-driving rides more affordable. The company plans to first test unsupervised FSD in certain areas, starting with Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in Texas and California, before rolling it out fully for the Cybercab.
The company recently started showcasing the Cybercab at its showrooms, letting customers take a look at the vehicle in person.
