Lucid Job Posting Hints at Apple Music, Amazon Music Integration

A recent job posting by Lucid Motors on LinkedIn suggests the electric vehicle (EV) startup is planning to expand its in-car infotainment offerings. The role of Senior Product Manager, Media Partner Management, lists among its key responsibilities working with Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other “media app partners.”

Lucid Motors, which currently has one flagship model, the Lucid Air, has received a generally positive response for its luxury sedan. However, the company’s high pricing has limited its customer base. According to Lucid’s Q3 report, the company produced 1,550 cars, marking a nearly 29% drop compared to the previous quarter and falling short of its annual target of 10,000 EVs.

To boost sales and customer engagement, Lucid recently introduced a new referral program. While in-car entertainment may not be a decisive factor for consumers, the addition of familiar media apps could enhance the overall driving experience. “Fulfill responsibilities of Product Owner for Apple, Amazon Music and other Media app partners,” states the job posting, outlining the duties of the new role.

The job description also includes working closely with internal stakeholders to “define requirements and deliver solutions that bring value to our ecosystem of third-party systems.” The role will involve qualitative and quantitative research to discover feature ideas and validate them before development, reports Electrek.

This move comes after Lucid introduced Apple CarPlay to its Air model via an over-the-air update in March. The job posting raises questions about what other media apps might be added to Lucid’s infotainment system.

With Spotify, Tidal, and iHeartRadio already available, and Apple and Amazon Music likely on the way, the company seems to be covering major music apps. The possibility of adding video streaming services like AppleTV+, Amazon Prime Video, or Netflix is also being speculated, given the vertical orientation of the Air’s center display.
