Lucid Motors announced on Thursday that Apple CarPlay is now standard on every Lucid Air sedan, along with Android Auto.

Apple CarPlay is an in-car infotainment system that allows iPhone users to access and use various apps and features from their devices directly on their vehicle’s built-in display. By connecting an iPhone to a compatible car’s entertainment system via a Lightning cable or wirelessly, CarPlay offers a safer and more convenient way to make calls, send and receive messages, navigate using maps, and listen to music or podcasts while driving.

The CarPlay interface is designed to be straightforward and familiar, mirroring the look and feel of an iPhone’s screen. It supports Siri voice commands, enabling drivers to interact with their devices without taking their eyes off the road or their hands off the steering wheel. In addition, CarPlay is compatible with various third-party apps, such as Google Maps, Spotify, Audible, and Waze, allowing users to customize their in-car experience.

Apple offers automakers CarPlay for free to integrate into their vehicles. The same goes for Google’s Android Auto, as both of these systems are the leading interfaces demanded by car customers. Automakers tend to struggle to make great software in cars, aside from Tesla.

There is no Apple CarPlay for Tesla vehicles unless you’re willing to tinker with a workaround involving a Raspberry Pi.

With Apple CarPlay now being supported in the Lucid Air, Android Auto might be next.

Update: Looks like Android Auto is supported as well in the Lucid Air, according to the automaker’s updated website. “Air is even compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and countless other apps,” says Lucid’s website.

Last month, Lucid Motors announced their Q4 earnings and they were far short of expectations for 2022. The company continues to struggle with production and is burning cash at a fast pace.
