Tesla Model Y Nears Best-Selling EV Title with Over 2 Million Sales
Tesla’s Model Y is on the verge of becoming the best-selling electric vehicle of all time, with cumulative sales surpassing 2 million units worldwide. The data, compiled by CleanTechnica, reveals that the Model Y is closely trailing its sibling, the Model 3, which has reached 2.20 million sales. The Model Y has accumulated a staggering 2.16 million sales since its launch.
“Tesla Model Y launched on 2020-03 crossed 2 million mark in 2023-08 in just 3½ years,” said Madan Rajan, a CleanTechnica reader. The vehicle’s rapid sales trajectory is attributed to its optimal blend of performance, technology, price, range, and style.
Cumulative sales charts for both the Model Y and Model 3 to date, indicate that the Model Y is likely to overtake the Model 3 in sales this quarter. The publication predicts that the Model Y will maintain this leading position for an extended period.
Tesla has long stated that the Model Y was on track to become the world’s best-selling car, event outselling traditional gas cars. The Model Y was the best-selling car in California for 2022 and has taken numerous crowns including topping sales in Europe as well.
The Model Y recently saw a price drop in the U.S., and the vehicle continues to sell well thanks to its eligibility for federal tax credits as well.
