Tesla has announced significant enhancements to its referral program, offering increased discounts and credits to both new buyers and those who refer them. The changes apply to purchases of new Model Y and Model 3 vehicles and also include software updates as part of the rewards.
Starting July 6, 2023, new buyers of Model 3 or Model Y vehicles who use a referral code will receive a $500 discount and three free months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability. This is a significant increase from the previous offer, which only provided buyers with 1,500 credits, equivalent to $125 (via @SawyerMerritt).
In addition, those who refer a new buyer of a Model 3 or Model Y will now receive 10,000 credits, worth approximately $1,000. This is five times more than the previous referral reward.
Furthermore, just one referral will now allow Tesla owners to redeem three months of Full Self-Driving, which is back at just 10,000 credits. In a nutshell, your referral credits will allow for free ongoing Full Self-Driving beta access, 3 months at a time, if you have a lot of credits.
The Acceleration Boost for Model Y is also available for 9,500 credits (normally a $2,000 USD value; or $2,700 CAD), so just getting one referral is worth it if you own a Model Y.
Also available is 3 Months of Enhanced Autopilot, available for 8,000 credits.
These software updates as part of the referral rewards provide an incentive for Tesla owners to encourage friends and family to purchase Tesla vehicles.
For purchases of new Model S or Model X vehicles using a referral link, starting June 2, 2023, buyers will receive a $1,000 discount and three months of FSD Capability. The referrer will receive 20,000 referral credits.
For solar panels or Solar Roof orders using a referral link, starting June 8, 2023, buyers will receive a $500 discount, and the referrer will receive 9,000 referral credits.
The referral program also extends to Canada, with similar offers starting on the same dates. The discounts for Canadian buyers are CA$1,300 for new Model S or Model X vehicles and CA$650 for new Model 3 or Model Y vehicles.
Existing owners who purchase an additional qualifying product with the same Tesla Account may also qualify for the cash awards and benefits. However, existing owners who attempt to order through a referral link will not qualify for referral credits, as they are already part of the Tesla community. Instead, they will automatically earn the buyer cash awards and exclusive referral benefits associated with the purchased product.
