Tesla’s Megapacks are set to be used for another battery storage project in the United Kingdom with a new financial arrangement confirmed by a local utility provider.

TagEnergy has reached a deal for its fourth battery energy storage system (BESS) in the UK, this time a 49.9MW/100MWh Tesla Megapack in Fife, Scotland, according to the company.

The company financially closed on the deal, which is called the Roaring Hill development. The site is expected to include 18 battery enclosures to offer increased grid stabilization and a more balanced supply of electricity. Construction is now starting with an estimated completion by Q1 2024, developed by renewable energy company RES. Back in September 2021, Tag Energy acquired Roaring Hill from RES.

With Megapacks, TagEnergy also plans to use the Tesla Autobidder AI to manage real-time rates, peak use times and overall system control.

The project was funded in part by Santander UK, which also helped fund TagEnergy’s Abernathy, Scotland BESS project.

“When TagEnergy entered the UK market, our stated ambition was to leverage our large scale battery expertise to support the grid and accelerate the energy transition. Little over a year later, that ambition continues to become reality as we prepare to deliver our fourth facility at Roaring Hill,” Mr Woitiez said.

“We are pleased that Santander UK has once again recognised the value of our projects in increasing both the capacity of the grid and renewable’s share of it, as we help meet a critical need for the industry, homes, businesses and the planet.”

Construction also began in recent weeks for a TagEnergy BESS in Luton, UK in a joint venture with Harmony Energy.
