Tesla began offering sales of the Model Y in Australia and New Zealand last June, so far comprised only of the single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant.

Now, however, Tesla has developed the first of its Model Y Performance units for the New Zealand market, with Australia soon to follow, according to a report from The Driven.

The report came from one user in a Tesla Motor Club forum, with the individual saying they got an update from Tesla including the Model Y unit’s VIN number.

“Got my VIN for MYP, first day order, actually first 10 mins order, white paint, no option at all, most likely late Feb delivery from my previous SR experience, I’m in NZ as well,” the user wrote.

In a later post, the user shared a screenshot of the details of their Model Y Performance, which included a build date of January 17.

Tesla tracking account @VedaPrime also confirmed that a New Zealand-bound build had been completed, though nothing has been confirmed for Australia as of yet.

In December, the single-motor RWD Tesla Model Y earned the 2022 car of the year award in Australia, courtesy of News AU.

The Model Y’s popularity has also been expected to perform well amidst news that Australian tax benefits could cut up to $10,000 off the price tag.
