Tesla Led EV Registrations in Germany for December and Full Year 2022
Tesla topped a number of vehicle sales categories in Germany, according to data from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (kBa) shared this week (via @Berlinergy).
The Model 3 and Model Y were ranked first and third, respectively, for the country’s top-registered vehicles in December among gas and EVs, while also ranking 10th and 12th, respectively, year-to-date (YTD).
The two were also the top two battery-electric vehicle (BEV) models, both in the year and in December alone. The Tesla Model Y topped year to date charts for BEVs with 35,426 units registered at 7.5 percent of the sector’s market share. The Model 3 followed, with 33,841 units registered YTD for 7.2 percent of the market.
Tesla’s two flagship models switched spots on December’s top BEVs registered, featuring the Model 3 in first with 9,566 units registered (9.2 percent share) and the Model Y in second with 7,382 (7.1 percent share).
For the full-year 2022 data, Tesla led EV registrations at 14.9% edging out Volkswagen in its home nation at 13.4%.

The news comes after Tesla opened its Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany last spring, which reached a production milestone of 3,000 Model Y units built in a week just last month. In June, Tesla aimed to reach a weekly Model Y output of 3,000 per week by October.
In November, Tesla broke delivery records in Germany for a 93-percent increase year-over-year.
Tesla also sold a record 92,000 vehicles across Europe in the fourth quarter of 2022, marking a 77-percent jump year over year.
