Tesla Led EV Sales in France for 2022
Tesla dominated electric vehicle (EV) sales in France for the entirety of 2022 — reports Automotive News Europe.
The all-electric pioneer also saw the largest volume gains of any automaker in the French market for 2022. Tesla’s sales increased 10% year-over-year, despite overall new car registrations in France dipping 31% below pre-pandemic levels from 2019 and 8% year-over-year from 2021 to 1,529,035 units.
EVs managed to capture 13% of France’s automotive market in 2022, leading the plug-in sector. Gasoline and diesel cars still accounted for over half of all car sales in France for the year, with market shares of 37% and 16%, respectively.
Plug-in vehicles did manage to overtake gas-powered rivals in France during the first quarter of 2022, but they couldn’t keep that up for the full year. During Q1, Tesla’s Model 3 was the best-selling EV in the country.
The Model 3 and Model Y were also France’s best-selling EVs for November 2022. Model Y sales in France this past year were spurred on by Tesla launching a new Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) trim, which was cheaper than the Model 3 in the French market, in August.
In January 2022, Tesla also opened its Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs in France.
Tesla today reported record deliveries of 405,278 vehicles for the fourth quarter of 2022, along with an all-time high of 1,313,851 million deliveries for the year as a whole.
