Tesla Extends Model 3/Y Delivery Wait Times in China

Tesla has extended delivery wait times for all trims of its Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles (EVs) in China — reports CnEVPost.

All Model 3 and Model Y trims now show a delivery time of 1-4 weeks on Tesla’s Chinese vehicle configurator. All other details, including price, remain the same. Prior to the change, Tesla was offering December deliveries for the entire range.

Tesla significantly cut wait times in China in recent weeks to boost delivery numbers for the year as 2022 draws to a close, with the most recent change on December 2 bringing the delivery window down from 1-5 weeks to December. In addition, the all-electric automaker is also offering several discounts to customers in China to incentivize December deliveries.

Customers who take delivery by December 31 will still qualify for all of the discounts. What’s more, purchase tax exemptions for Tesla EVs are now available until the end of 2023, and buyers in Shenzhen are eligible for a subsidy of about ¥12,000 (about $1,720) until January 31, 2023.

All of the Model 3/Y units sold in China are manufactured at Tesla’s Chinese Gigafactory in Shanghai. Over the weekend, media reports indicated that Tesla has suspended production at Gigafactory Shanghai until January 1, 2023.

However, an unnamed source from within Tesla China has since denied these reports, saying instead that the vehicle production line has been taken offline for scheduled annual maintenance and workers have gone on break until work is completed. The person added that other workshops at Giga Shanghai, including the charging pile production space, remain operational.
