Fred Krupp, the President of the Environmental Defense Club (EDF), called Elon Musk a “visionary” this week in an interview with Yahoo Finance, also adding that SpaceX is launching a satellite for the non-profit organization.

Krupp noted the newly mainstream appeal of electric vehicles as Musk’s doing and the subsequent revolution spanning the entire auto industry.

“He’s a visionary,” said Krupp on a segment with Andy Serwer. “I think it’s impossible not to give him credit for demonstrating the fact that electric vehicles can be extremely desirable — again, forgetting about the environmental or climate benefits.”

“He caused a revolution in the auto industry, and there’s no two ways about it.”

While Krupp noted Musk’s accomplishments in particular for creating mainstream appeal for the electric vehicle (EV), he also notes an $88 million satellite that has been built and paid for.

The satellite is set to be launched into low-Earth orbit and will be used to help identify and measure methane pollution from oil and gas.

The satellite was built by Raytheon with financial contributions from billionaire John Arnold, the Robertson Foundation and the Bezos Earth Fund (yes, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos), and it’s set to be launched by SpaceX in 2023.

SpaceX is set for a busy launch year in 2023, with plans for weekly launches of its next-generation Starlink satellites and a handful of contract launches for companies across industries.
