Twitter’s Next Feature Will Let Creators Earn Money from Videos: Report

Twitter is working on a feature to allow users to charge for video content, and the company is looking to push the feature out quickly, according to an email obtained by The Washington Post.

Additionally, the team in charge of the feature has “identified the risk as high,” according to the email, also adding concern over “risks related to copyrighted content, creator/user trust issues, and legal compliance.”

The email also says those tweeting could choose from preset prices such as $1, $2, $5 or $10 for certain content.

“When a creator composes a tweet with a video, the creator can enable the paywall once a video has been added to the tweet,” reads the email.

Although the Twitter platform does allow for some nudity and consensual pornography, unlike many social media platforms, The Post notes that the shift could place them in competition with other sites that focus on adult content.

Still, Twitter has also begun moving into live audio with its ‘Spaces’ feature and is preparing to start charging $8 a month for users to get or keep a verification checkmark — all to the backdrop of Musk’s desire to create the ‘X’ everything app.

For the longest time, creators have been hesitant to share their videos on Twitter as there was no ability to monetize their video, compared to platforms like YouTube. It remains to be seen how Twitter will stop users from sharing video clips from creators, which is usually the case and thusly the latter losing out on paid views.
