Twitter to Combat Hate and Harassment Ahead of 2022 US Midterms: Musk

Elon Musk Twitter Bio

Twitter’s “Chief Twit” @Elon Musk tweeted that he spoke with civil society leaders on Monday about how Twitter plans to “continue to combat hate & harassment & enforce its election integrity policies.”

In a follow-up tweet, Musk also said that Twitter anyone taken off the platform for defying the rules would not be allowed back until the company has a clear process for reinstating those accounts — adding that this process will also take at least a few more weeks.

The statements came as many wonder how Musk will handle banned celebrities such as Donald Trump and Ye, after Musk said he would end permanent bans at Twitter last week.

Musk named company executives from Free Press, the NAACP, Color of Change, the Asian-American Foundation, LULAC, The Bush Center and both the VP and CEO at ADL. Those specifically named included Jonathan Greenblatt, Yael Eisenstat, Rashad Robinson, Jessica González, Norman Chen, Derrick Johnson, Ken Hersch and Sindy Benavides.

Additionally, Musk added that Twitter’s content moderation council will include representatives from vastly different points of view. He also said this group would include those from the civil rights community and other groups who face hate-fueled violence.

After taking over at Twitter just five days ago, Musk now plans to shift toward an $8 verification fee for users who want to keep their blue verification checkmark — a move he says “will destroy the bots” on the social media platform.
