SpaceX to Add ‘Donate Option’ to Starlink for Places in Need

SpaceX Starlink is set to gain a new option to expand charity to places that require satellite internet.

CEO @Elon Musk said on Monday that SpaceX will add a “donate option” for Starlink, allowing users to donate the service to places in need.

The claim came in a retweet of Chipper CEO @Ham Serunjogi‘s post, saying he was impressed with how easy setup was and the initial speeds. Serunjogi also tagged Musk and added that he’d be glad to commit money to donating Starlink to schools and hospitals in Uganda.

The news comes after Musk and SpaceX decided to continue paying for Starlink in Ukraine, despite asking the Pentagon to take over costs a few days earlier, and predicting the company will lose out on as much as $400 million to pay for the service over the next 12 months.

Earlier this month, SpaceX also connected schools in the Amazon rainforest with donated Starlink terminals, spurring a Twitter discussion about how access to information can help people.

In the U.S., SpaceX also provided Starlink to a remote Virginia County through a grant program in the area earlier this month.
