Tesla Said to Expand Gigafactory Nevada Soon, Says Report
Tesla is looking to expand Gigafactory Nevada after years of announcing plans to do so, according to sources familiar with the matter reporting to electrek.
Past statements by Tesla held that the Giga Nevada location would be able to produce around 105 GWh of battery cells per year and 150 GWh of battery packs per year.
However, the factory is currently only around 30 percent completed, based on previous plans to expand the Nevada location.
Giga Nevada’s current footprint takes up “more than 1.9 million square feet,” though the added floorspace from having multiple floors has it housing “approximately 5.3 million square feet of operational space.”

Upon the factory’s full completion, Giga Nevada is eventually supposed to include both the yellow-coloured cell manufacturing and general manufacturing space in the image above, in addition to a raw materials processing area. The expansion that is reportedly planned for Giga Nevada is the “C” space depicted above.
It’s still unclear when the project will start, though it could happen quickly if it’s anything like Tesla’s other projects.
A report from last month showed that Tesla’s Giga Nevada can currently build 6,500 Powerwalls and 42 Megapacks per week.
Additionally, the long-awaited Tesla Semi has been spotted at the Nevada Gigafactory and is expected to begin shipping by the end of this year.
