Tesla Aiming to Double Sales in Germany This Year, Opens 21st Sales Center

The new Tesla auto plant in Germany hopes to significantly increase the automaker’s sales in the country, even potentially outdoing a Japanese importer that’s consistently an auto industry front-runner.

Tesla is looking to double its sales in Germany this year, in hopes to overtake import manufacturers such as Toyota, as reported by Automobilwoche.

Tesla delivered 39,714 vehicles in 2021, while Toyota had 71,890 in the same year. If Tesla can double its sales from 2022 in Germany, it would surpass Toyota’s deliveries from last year — and maybe its deliveries from this year, too.

“Our goal is to double sales every year, so we would be around 80,000 units by 2022,” said Tesla’s site manager to the German publication.

“This is our reaction to growth and customer requirements,” added another manager.

Tesla also said it opened up its 21st sales center and showroom in Germany, with the newest in industrial area Neu-Ulm, a car dealership-style location.

The news comes amidst Tesla’s production ramp-up at Giga Berlin, after the automaker upgraded its assembly lines to increase output capacity at the Grünheide facility.

In a statement in July, Tesla said it was targeting 3,000 Model Y units per week at Giga Berlin by October. The automaker had reached 1,500 Model Y units weekly as of the end of August.

After opening seven months ago, Tesla is already planning multiple expansion projects to Giga Berlin, including plans for a freight station and
