Tesla Standard Connectivity Now Limited to 8 Years for New Orders

In the past, Tesla has offered lifetime connectivity options for new buyers, though the automaker has officially ended the program that gave this upgrade to buyers.
Tesla is no longer offering standard connectivity for life on new vehicle orders placed after July 20, 2022, as spotted by Teslarati.
The statement comes from Tesla’s Connectivity section of the Support page, where the automaker says: “All new Tesla vehicles ordered on or before July 20, 2022, will have Standard Connectivity features at no cost for the lifetime of the vehicle (excluding retrofits or upgrades required for any features or services externally supplied to the vehicle – e.g. telecommunications network). As additional features and services become available in the future, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your connectivity plan.”

With the purchase of its vehicles, Tesla sells two connectivity packages — standard and premium.
Tesla says “all vehicles with Standard Connectivity will continue to receive the same core maps & navigation functionality as vehicles with Premium Connectivity, including traffic-based routing, Trip Planner and Supercharger stall availability. Standard Connectivity is included in your vehicle, at no additional cost, for eight years beginning on the first day your vehicle was delivered as new by Tesla, or the first day it is put into service (for example used as a demonstrator or service vehicle), whichever comes first. If you are purchasing a used vehicle, you will be notified of how long your vehicle will include access to Standard Connectivity.”
For those opting for Premium Connectivity, you get satellite-view maps and live traffic visualization.
Connectivity lets vehicles access apps that use data, such as music streaming services, navigation and other media.
New vehicle orders are also set to lose standard connectivity after it expires in eight years, at which point the automaker would notify owners, according to Tesla.
In February, Tesla launched its yearly premium connectivity plan for just $99, or buyers can purchase the connectivity option for slightly more at $9.99 per month.
