Sandy Munro Tours IDRA Giga Press Factory in Italy [VIDEO]
After Munro & Associates teased Sandy’s visit to Giga Press maker IDRA’s Italian facility, the crew has officially shared his tour of the factory.
In a video shared on Friday by Munro Live, Sandy Munro gets a tour of Tesla casting machine maker IDRA’s Giga Press manufacturing facility in Italy.
Sandy is given the tour of the facility by IDRA Sales and Marketing Manager John Stokes and Engineering Manager Fiorenzo Dioni.
While the video begins with a few lower-level machines, some of which are still being tested, Stokes explains how the company must perform dry aluminum tests in the IDRA facility, though automakers would be working with and casting wet aluminum.
Stokes spends a lot of time talking about how the machines work and what elements are especially important for auto assembly.
The second half of the video primarily focuses on the 9,000-ton Giga Press made for aluminum die casting, and how the process of casting works for a company like Tesla.
Stokes explains how much of the casting process works, and how the machine works overall.
Munro is also planning to share a Tesla Model Y 4680 battery cell teardown in the coming weeks, though the team admitted earlier this week that the process was “much more difficult than we thought.”
