The Boring Company to Launch Dogecoin Payments for Vegas Loop Rides

Elon Musk’s The Boring Company will soon accept cryptocurrency Dogecoin for rides on its Loop tunnels in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to CNN, Dogecoin payments launched on Friday, when the first Loop station opened outside the Las Vegas Convention Center, with its existing three stops.

How does the Loop work? Passengers hop into a Tesla and are then taxied to their destination. Currently, rides are free but that will change at some point in time. The Loop website says eventually single rides will cost $1.50 and day passes for $2.50.

Purchasing tickets will see riders scan a QR code on a wall at the new Resorts World station to buy a ticket with Dogecoin. Other payment methods of credit card and U.S. dollars remain.

Musk is a known advocate of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin and reacted to the CNN story today by saying, “supporting Doge wherever possible.”

The Las Vegas Strip will soon be home to over 50 stations from The Boring Company, as the project is fully funded by the latter.

Yesterday, Musk said Tesla vehicles operating in The Boring Company tunnels may start using Full Self-Driving possibly later this year.

CNN was told by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, which operates the Convention Center, that Loop has carried more than 400,000 passengers, with an average satisfaction rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars.
