Tesla FSD Beta for Right-Hand Drive Coming ‘Probably’ Later in 2022

When will Tesla release its Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta for countries with right-hand drive, such as Australia? That might come later this year, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday.

Responding to a question from @TeslaGong in Australia about the estimated release of FSD beta for right-hand drive vehicles, Musk replied “probably later this year.”

Musk’s response was part of a Twitter thread started by Google deep learning software engineer, François Chollet. “Mass deployment of self-driving cars was less than 5 years away in 2016. Then in 2021 it was 2-3 years away. In 2024 it will be 1 year away. Zeno’s AI milestone,” said Chollet. Musk then replied, “you obviously haven’t tried Tesla FSD.”

Tesla previously said a wide FSD release in North America would take place by the end of this year. Currently, FSD beta is available in Canada and the U.S.

Other countries that have right-hand drive vehicles that currently have Teslas for purchase include the likes of Singapore, New Zealand and Japan, with the latter group joining Australia in recently gaining Model Y sales.

Earlier this month, Musk said a version of FSD beta for European regulators to review is “close”. In March, Musk said FSD beta would be arriving in Europe this summer, but it remains to be seen if that timeline rings true.
