Tesla Software Needs to Fix Model 3 Vehicles in China Over ‘Track Mode’ Issue
Another round of recalls has been announced by China’s safety regulator, covering Tesla’s Model 3 vehicles built both locally and overseas.
Tesla recalled another 14,684 imported and Shanghai-built Model 3 units in China, due to problems with the software that could cause collisions, according to a statement from the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) reported by Reuters.
The recall applies to Tesla Model 3 Performance units built between January 2019 and March 2022, with a total of 1,850 imported vehicles and 12,834 built at the automaker’s Shanghai Gigafactory.
The affected cars don’t include a unit for speed numbers under Track Mode, which can be misleading for drivers and may lead to collisions in extreme circumstances, according to the regulator.

Like with most of its recalls, Tesla will most likely deploy a software update to fix the issue.
China’s SAMR also announced a recall earlier this month, covering 127,785 Tesla Model 3 units, due to faults in the semiconductor components that could cause collisions.
Tesla also faced a recall in China in February covering 26,000 vehicles, due to the heat pump having issues.
In March, Tesla sold almost 67,000 cars in China, representing an 86-percent increase year-over-year.
Last year, a woman climbed atop a Tesla Model 3 at the Shanghai Auto Expo to protest allegedly faulty brakes in the automaker’s vehicles.
