Dogecoin has announced the RadioDoge project which combines radio technology with global Starlink internet to bring Dogecoin access to those without traditional internet infrastructure, according to the Dogecoin Foundation website.
The foundation says its mission is to “see Dogecoin become the de facto means for exchanging goods and services globally,” adding that the company hopes to offer financial autonomy to those in need.
On the page, the foundation says, “With 1.7 billion people remaining unbanked globally there are huge portions of humanity who depend on unscrupulous and sometimes threatening people and systems to trade their produce for the goods and services they need to survive.”
In addition to RadioDoge, the Dogecoin Foundation discusses the company’s GigaWallet project building out a backend service for creating payment platforms and tipping bots for Dogecoin exchanges.
“RadioDoge focuses on using cheap and reliable Radio technology (HF/LoRaWAN) combined with the global Starlink satellite network to enable cheaply deployable, wide scale access to Dogecoin for people outside the reach of traditional internet infrastructure,” explains the Dogecoin Foundation.
The page also details Libdogecoin, a programming library that offers the building blocks to establish projects using Dogecoin.
Elon Musk’s automaker Tesla accepts Dogecoin as payment for some of the merchandise items on its online shop.
Last year, a developer revealed that Musk had been working with the Dogecoin team since 2019, and the billionaire has made his support for Dogecoin, Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general clear over the past few years.
