
Jeff Roberts shared a new construction update for Tesla’s American Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, with drone footage captured on Saturday, January 22, which turned out to be quite the busy Saturday at the site.
Saturday marked day 549 of construction at Giga Texas. The video showcases some excavation work taking place in the North “cyber wall” area, windows going into the lower entrance “T”, pre-cast concrete panels being fitted along the South stamping wall to reveal the window pattern, and much more.
Tesla filed for final approval of Gigafactory Texas in November of last year, and the first Giga Texas-made Model Ys are rumored to begin shipping by the end of the first quarter.
Tesla will begin production at Giga Texas with the Model Y, but the facility will ultimately also be responsible for building the company’s upcoming Cybertruck.
If all goes as planned, we should see the “Giga Texas grand opening party” we were promised by Tesla CEO Elon Musk pretty soon. Speaking of Tesla’s Gigafactories, final permit approval for Giga Berlin is expected anytime now, and the company hopes to deliver the first Berlin-made Model Ys to customers by March.
