Tesla Model Y Battery Test in Sub-Zero Minnesota Weather [VIDEO]

Brian Riebe Drives Electric shared results of how his Model Y did in a below-zero weather test on Sunday, following the snowstorm traffic jam in Virginia which took place last week.

In the video, Riebe starts by charging his vehicle and pre-conditioning it before going for a drive, then spends most of his time inside the car in the Minnesota cold, camping overnight outside his home, using camp mode.

Upon waking up around 7:30 a.m. the next day, the outdoor temperature was down to -18 degrees Fahrenheit, with the battery down to 24 percent.

After leaving the vehicle in camp mode for about an hour in order to help his daughter get ready for school, Riebe reports the battery down to 19 percent.

Although camp mode is supposed to turn off at 20 percent battery, the mode remains on when Riebe returns after leaving the vehicle’s camp mode and climate controls running. He kept the test going until his battery was showing 11% on the Tesla app and 4% showing in the car, until 12:26pm, for a total of 14 hours in the car.

Near the end, Riebe discusses the results from the test and provides a number of Tesla Model Y winter tips to keep the battery warm and running as long as possible. At the end of the day, it’s best to pack emergency supplies when embarking on any road trip in extreme winter conditions.
