Tesla Blind Spot Camera Concept on Model S: How it Should Really Work [VIDEO]
After Tesla launched its Blind Spot Camera feature for drivers in a recent holiday update, one developer shared their own prototype with what they consider some major improvements.
On Tuesday, developer @greentheonly shared a video of a modded Blind Spot Camera prototype that moves to the Model S instrument cluster when using a turn signal, instead of appearing on the infotainment screen, which is counterintuitive.

(pardon my crude prototype, the car viz should ideally shift to the right instead of disappearing) pic.twitter.com/mUrk3WPg9R— green (@greentheonly) December 27, 2021
Here’s how it actually works:
Actual Tesla implementation…
I mean I would understand that for the right turn signal (but move it to top right at least), but left? pic.twitter.com/SwEalR8GAC

Green points out that the feature should especially be used for left-turn signals, though both being on the instrument cluster does seem more intuitive for the driver.
The feature, which activates when right or left turn signals are engaged, simply displays the blind spot view on the bottom middle of the infotainment screen, though Green posits it should move to the instrument cluster–closer to a driver’s actual line of vision.
While the video shared only depicts a quick mockup of the idea, Green explains, a real Tesla design of the feature should have the vision view shift to the right side of the instrument cluster so as to avoid blocking other useful information included on the display.
Earlier this month, Green also pointed out Tesla’s Santa Mode includes elves and an updated sleigh, along with a slew of other discoveries in the car’s internal code made over the past couple of years.
