Tesla’s Hertz rentals have already begun, and in the days since, Hertz has updated its rental agreement to include information about renting a Tesla.

Hertz has released its rental agreement including details specific to Tesla’s vehicles located starting on page 4 (via @TheEVUniverse). The agreement notes a number of things like leaving the vehicle charged to no more than 90 percent upon return but no less than 20 percent, among a number of other things.

The agreement details that rentals come with a key card, which should be returned with the vehicle. If a user damages or needs to replace their key card, they’ll be charged $50 USD.

In addition, the agreement specifies that users are responsible for logging out of Netflix and Spotify, when they return their vehicles, lest they be subject to use from other vehicle users.

Here are the full Hertz-Tesla rental agreement highlights:

  • Daily rental rates do not include the cost of electricity required to charge an electric vehicle. Hertz will endeavour to provide our electric vehicle with 80% charge (350km range) and ask that you return it with
no less than 20% charge (80km range).
  • You will be able to access Tesla superchargers to recharge the electricvehicle. Any Tesla supercharger use is billed back to Hertz and you acknowledge that you are fully responsible for these costs. Hertz will on charge to your card on receipt of an invoice.
  • Our electric vehicles have a standard battery capacity and range, however the performance of that battery depends on the conditions under which it is operated. Hertz will not be liable or responsible for any shortfall of the battery capacity or range.
  • The Battery charging limit on your Tesla rental should be set at 90% maximum and it is advised that this limit should only be increased to 100% in critical circumstances, as charging the battery to 100% can lead to significant battery degradation.
  • Our electric vehicles come with 2 charging cable, it is important to look after both cables and ensure it is returned with the vehicle. The cost for replacement cables is usually around $500 each and this will not be covered by insurance.
  • Our electric vehicles come with a key card, you must take good care of this keycard and ensure it is returned with the vehicle. The cost for damaged or replacement keycards is usually around $50 and this will not be covered by insurance.
  • Any underbody or battery damage caused by driving over foreign objects is not covered by insurance.
  • Hertz will not be responsible for removing any personalisation created in the electric vehicle. For example, if you sign into Netflix or Spotify, then you are responsible for logging out at the end of their hire and Hertz is not responsible if another renter utilises your account.

While the company has already received some of its Tesla Model 3 units, Hertz is also reportedly still negotiating with Tesla on the specific timeline of delivery. Upon the initial announcement, Hertz said it planned to receive the 100,000 Teslas by the end of 2022, though it’s unclear as to whether that’s still the plan or not.

The Hertz CEO also said that it was possible for the company to expand to 150,000 Tesla vehicles earlier this week, if demand arose for the upgrade.
