Tesla CEO Elon Musk was invited to speak at the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Congress in China.

In a pre-recorded video shared on Tesla’s Weibo account, Musk answers some questions for viewers of the new energy vehicle congress.

Musk is asked what he thinks about the Chinese new energy vehicle market.

“I have a great deal of respect for Chinese automakers”, said Musk, noting electric vehicle companies in China are the “most competitive in the world, “because some are very good at software.”

“It is software that will share the future of the automobile industry. From design, to manufacturing and especially autonomous driving,” answered Musk.

When asked about how autonomous driving tech helps improve the safety of vehicles, Musk said Tesla is not just an electric car company. Instead, Tesla is building vision-based artificial intelligence. “We believe autonomous driving can be achieved by entirely by vision neural nets” similar to humans, explained Musk.

“Safety is the top priority when we design Tesla vehicles. I am confident that we can achieve Full Self-Driving with 10x higher safety than the average human driver,” expressed Musk.

When asked about data security, Musk said “Tesla will work with national authorities in all countries,” to ensure data security of intelligent and connected vehicles.

The answer likely is to ease concerns in China about data security when it comes to Tesla vehicles. Tesla already said it would store vehicle data on servers in China.

“We figure it is necessary to address public concerns by applying appropriate technical measures,” said Musk, before thanking the congress for inviting him to speak.
