Tesla Roadster Drag Race: Standard vs SpaceX Thruster Package Imagined [VIDEO]
Tesla’s Roadster 2.0 can do 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds, but the optional SpaceX package—with thrusters—can do the same feat in a whopping 1.1 second.
This SpaceX package would have “cold air rocket thrusters positioned at the rear”, which CEO Elon Musk has previously explained as coming out of the fold-down license plate area, ‘James Bond’ style. So far, it’s unclear how much this SpaceX package for the Roadster will cost. But you can guess it won’t come cheap.
SpaceX thruster package will be subtle. Hidden behind license plate.

Now, Slave Popovski (@Pslavi), has shared another simulation of Tesla’s Roadster and its acceleration, but this time in a drag race between the standard version and another equipped with the SpaceX package.
“Here’s an animation I created of a drag race between the Standard Tesla Roadster vs the SpaceX thruster version,” detailed Popovski.
“Using online figures I simulate the difference between them visually if the thruster is only active for the 1.1 seconds 0-60mph as claimed by Tesla vs the standard 1.9 seconds. The cones at the end of the animation are 1/4 mile markers,” he added, noting motion physics were used to simulate the online figures.

To experience 0 to 60 mph in 1.1 second would be pretty insane. Let’s hope the new Roadster includes barf bags in the glove box.
Last month, the new Roadster made its way to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California. Back in May, Elon Musk said the production Roadster “will look different (better)”.
