Some Tesla Model 3 Owners Getting ‘Schedule Roof Service’ Message

Earlier this week, a Reddit user shared an image of a notification they received in the Tesla app. The notification in question urged them to “schedule roof service” for their Tesla vehicle.

The notification reads:

We identified that your vehicle may experience or have experienced a small water ingress/intake in the cabin.
If an issue is found during your service appointment, we will repair it immediately at no cost.
Schedule your service appointment in your Tesla app.

The user, who has owned a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance for two months now, asked others in the community if they’ve received something similar and, if so, what their experience has been like.

While Tesla vehicles are pretty self-aware and will often make requests to schedule service through the Tesla app or directly on the vehicle dashboard display when an issue is detected, that is likely not the case here.

As another Reddit user in the comments notes, there are no reports of Tesla vehicles being equipped with leak detectors along the roof line, and incorporating them would be a pretty peculiar design choice.

The most likely explanation for this notification is that Tesla has identified a potential defect in the batch of vehicles this particular Model 3 belongs to, and is recommending an inspection to determine whether or not the defect exists on this vehicle and needs to be fixed.

This is standard practice across all vehicle manufacturers — the only highlight of this instance is that Tesla likes to recommend inspections for potential defects through the Tesla app instead of regular mail, and that the company is, for whatever reason, framing it as a possible water leak.

The owner of the Model 3 did report that the roof glass on their vehicle is not perfectly centered, as did another user with a Model 3 Performance they received around the same time. The misaligned roofs may have something to do with the potential issue.

Exactly how many Tesla vehicles are affected by this issue and how many owners have received this particular notification currently remains unknown.
