In a recently published YouTube video, AI DRIVR gives us another walkthrough of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving beta in the streets of California, this time in Walnut Creek on version 8.2 (2021.4.11.1) of the beta.

AI DRIVR programs a route into their Tesla’s navigation, and lets the vehicle do its thing while maintaining constant vigilance throughout. The Tesla’s navigation display is superimposed over the footage, giving us unprecedented insight into how FSD navigates the route.

It’s amazing how far FSD has come, and just how much improvement each new iteration brings — FSD held tight lanes, put ample distance between the cars in front, and made well-calculated turns throughout the walkthrough.

The most notable event occurs a little over a minute into the video when an individual gets out of their vehicle, parked along the side of the road, and steps into the Tesla’s ‘bubble’ of detection. FSD treats the person as a pedestrian, braking to a stop until they walked away and were clear.

Near the end of the route, the Tesla made a turn onto a street with very little visibility, resulting in FSD doing a ‘creeping’ maneuver into the street to confirm visibility before driving in.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk said FSD beta v9.0 was “almost ready” and would have “pure vision” and “no radar”, suggesting the system would rely solely on Autopilot cameras.
