Tesla has recently made some changes to its adapter pricing this month, with the most recent change affecting those looking to charge their cars at home.

On Tesla’s online store, the company has changed the price of the 14-50 (220v) Generation 2 NEMA home-charging adapters from $35 to $45 (USD) (via Reddit), a $10 USD increase. Users in Canada are also seeing a price increase.

The 14-50 220v adapter simply allows users to transition plug types from the car’s charger to the average US household’s electrical dryer outlet.

While Tesla used to include the 14-50 adapter with the purchase of any car, it has since stopped including the adapter, instead only including the 110v adapter, which is the typical household electrical outlet. Despite the plug’s potential convenience, however, those who use the 110v plug to charge their Teslas have reported charge times of 24 hours or more.

Different adapters include on the company’s website are rated for different amperage pulls. For example, the 14-50 plug can pull a total of 32A without issues, while a 6-30 plug may only pull up to 24A.

Regardless, the price change is only $10, but some are still speculating as to why the change was made.
