Taking a Ride in New York City’s First Tesla Taxi [VIDEO]

In a recently published YouTube video, Sam Sheffer showcases his experience riding in New York City’s first (and, right now, only) Tesla taxi, which he ran into while walking around the city.

The cab is a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus, wrapped and retrofitted to look like NYC’s taxicabs and meet the standards of the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.
While there is another Model 3 being operated as a cab in Vancouver, Canada, NYC’s Tesla taxi, driven by Rami, is the first of its kind in the state of New York.
The Tesla taxi sports all the same fixtures and familiar bright yellow color as the city’s resident cabs, with none of the noise or emissions. Not only is the Tesla yellow cab a friend to the environment, Tesla’s Autopilot-equipped EVs have been proven to be extremely safe, and the Model 3, in particular, was designed to be the safest car in the U.S.
All that, and more, is why Rami (and most of his passengers) don’t really mind dealing with the Model 3’s unique and notoriously confusing door handles that sit flush against its frame and need to be pushed on at the edge before they can be pulled on to open a door.
In the passengers’ compartment of New York’s only Tesla taxi, all you hear is the melodic hum of the tires against the road, and the sound of quality conversation with Rami.
