Tesla Plans First Supercharger Station in Zhongshan, China
Electric vehicles (EVs) are quickly on the rise, with much of the world looking to incentivize consumers into purchasing zero-emissions vehicles. Still, the charging infrastructures in most places require a lot more work in order to make sustainable transportation the norm.
In new charging network news, Tesla has shared plans to build a Supercharger station in Zhongshan, China, according to a report by South China Morning Post. The charging station will be put into use as soon as January, and will be a part of the city’s experience center in the Greater Bay Area.
Tesla’s Zhongshan expansion will be following suit with a number of other companies, which the city hopes will attract customers to the transport hub from the surrounding area. The city will soon also include a sea crossing to Shenzhen, another major appeal to the area. Centenary United, a car services provider, has partnered with Tesla to build the station.
Law Hau-Kit, chief executive of Centenary United, said, “The station could attract drivers in a 100km radius, and even drivers in Guangzhou could come to charge their cars.” He continued, “Electric cars will certainly be the future of the market.”
Tesla owners in Zhongshan is likely to exceed 3,000 by the end of 2021, up from its current number of 1,000, said Law.
