Lucid Motors Completes First Factory Phase, Shares Teaser [VIDEO]
Lucid Motors, called a “Tesla killer” by some, has been working its way towards the official production and release of its first car, the Lucid Air, for quite some time now. And with a major step in that direction having just been completed, the company is now preparing to deliver the Air to customers by Spring 2021.
Lucid Motors shared that it has completed its first Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) in Casa Grande, Arizona, with a production capacity of up to 30,000 units per year in its current state.
By the year 2028, the company plans to increase production capacity to 400,000 vehicles per year, an ambitious feat considering it has yet to deliver its first vehicle.
The first Lucid Air to hit the streets will be the Dream edition, though it’s set to be followed shortly by the Grand Touring and Touring editions. Then, in 2022, the company plans to deliver the Lucid Air Pure, a performance edition of the car.

The Lucid Air was officially announced in September, just a few weeks before competitor Tesla held its Battery Day event, in which it announced a new battery cell, a new vehicle release, and a number of smaller, related announcements. While Lucid will only have one car released, it will still become one of the only fully-electric planned lineups that currently exists.
In any case, Lucid Motors faces an uphill battle against EV leader Tesla, which already has a line of zero-emission vehicles that is largely available for purchase and delivery. Still, the official delivery of the Lucid Air will mark an important step forward for the company, and will likely lead to years of successful competition with EV giants Tesla.
