Tesla Superchargers Now Show Wait Times When Full
Earlier this month, Tesla surpassed 20,000 Superchargers, and it’s well on its way to a new charging infrastructure milestone, with substantially more plans for Supercharger construction.
In an exciting new feature update, Tesla’s infotainment system is now showing owners when there is a wait time at Superchargers, as reported by @EliBurton_ on Twitter (via Reddit). While the feature doesn’t show a specific wait time, but rather just says “short wait,” it’s still an upgrade from not knowing at all going in.
Tesla’s small new Supercharger feature also shares if there is a queue of cars waiting behind those currently charging, a related and useful system. While some users commented that they’d prefer an actual number of minutes to the vague description “short wait,” it’s still an improvement that should save Tesla owners a little extra time.
Oh cool the Tesla supercharger ⚡️ gives an estimate of the wait time based on the cars currently charging (short weight). This is really helpful @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/U1fOhst1f7

With Thanksgiving travel by car likely this year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the addition also seems timely. Many Superchargers may be at higher occupancy than average within the holiday season.
As Tesla’s charging infrastructure continues to increase and add features, it will continue to serve the purpose of our world’s transition to sustainable transportation.
