Swedish Sightseeing Boat Uses Tesla Model S Batteries to Go Electric
With all the exciting electric vehicle (EV) news out there right now, it’s easy to forget that cars aren’t the only method of transportation getting an electric makeover.
Swedish tour boat company, Eco Sightseeing Stockholm AB, has used recycled Tesla Model S battery cells to bring an all-electric passenger boat to life, as reported by MyNewsDesk.
The company has teamed up with Marineteknik AB to fabricate the new, all-electric boat. The goal of the project is to further the Stockholm-based company’s visions of a sustainable business and a circular economy.

The conversion represents a unique iteration of the historical passenger boat SYLVIA, originally made for the Royal Navy of England in 1943. SYLVIA also participated in the landing at Normandy in 1944, and is currently serving as a passenger boat for guided tours.
Now, with Tesla batteries at the helm, SYLVIA will finally go emission-free and offer tourists a completely-electric tour boat experience – perhaps the first of its kind in the world.
The newly-outfitted tour boat offers 14 hours of cruising time between charges, with its 85 kW electric motor. The boat can also carry up to 48 passengers at a time.
Eco Sightseeing Founder, Elias Nilsson, states that Greta Thunberg is a major influence on the company’s goals. In the words of the world’s favorite Swedish climate activist, “No one is too small to make a difference.”
