Tesla Solar Roof Price Drops on Upgraded Website

Tesla and CEO Elon Musk are trying to accelerate solar roof offerings to consumers, and they’re doing just that in a new price update.

On Wednesday, electrek reported that the Tesla website had been updated with new product information, as well as a hefty price drop for its solar roof. For a 3,947-square-foot roof, and with 12.3 kW solar roof tile system, the price before incentives dropped from $57,272 to $54,966 USD.

Tesla launched its solar roof tiles, now called Solarglass, late last year. Throughout that time, the price has dropped numerous times, and the service has begun to expand its locations.

CEO Elon Musk has said in the past, “In the future, it will be odd for roofs to be dormant, or dead, or not gather energy.” He continued, “You have to ask, what is the future that you want? I think the answer to that, for most of us, is you look around the neighborhood and the roofs are doing something, they’re gathering energy, and they’re very beautiful.”

The update to Tesla’s website also included added information about the roof’s installation and a doubled reward for referrals. Still, the price range isn’t likely justifiable for the average consumer yet, and it may take some time before it is.

Ultimately, the price reduction by Tesla is a great step towards more renewable stored energy options, and as more and more have Tesla Solarglass installed, it will be exciting to see it become more available to the general public.
