Bill Gates Says Elon Musk Comparison to Steve Jobs “Gross Oversimplification”
Comparisons between Tesla CEO and entrepreneur Elon Musk, and late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs have been circulating quite a bit recently.
When asked if he thought Elon Musk was the new Steve Jobs, billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates told Bloomberg that the comparison was a “gross oversimplification.”
Gates told the reporter, “If you know people personally, then that kind of gross oversimplification seems strange. He continued, “Elon is more of a hands-on engineer. Steve was a genius at design and picking people and marketing.”
He also went on to tell the reporter, “You wouldn’t walk into a room and confuse them with each other.”

Gates also went on to speak to Musk’s contributions to the climate change effort, which are, perhaps, the biggest contribution of electric vehicles (EV) to the world. Still, with Musk having spearheaded that movement through Tesla, he not only carries most of the market at this time, but he has also pushed other auto companies in the same direction.
In the past, Musk has shared that he found his previous conversations with Gates “underwhelming,” and has claimed that Gates “has no clue” about the capabilities of EVs.
Regardless of what Gates and Musk think about each other, it’s clear that EVs have already begun to benefit the world’s climate crisis, and it’s tough to say what Jobs would have been doing were he alive today.
