Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess has shared his experience driving Tesla’s Model Y, detailing the encounter on his LinkedIn:
“Of course I also tested a Tesla Model Y – with my colleague Frank Welsch. This car is for us in many aspects (not in all!) a reference: user experience, updatability, driving features, performance of the top of the range models, charging network, range,” said Diess.
The news of the Model Y test drive was added as a follow up to Diess’ LinkedIn post from September 7, 2020 (via Teslarati).
“Big advantage: Model Y was/is thought through as an electric car – as is the ID.3. Many of our competitors still using their ICE platforms. The result: They aren’t getting the best EVs,” concluded Diess.
Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk test drove the Volkswagen ID.3, with the news similarly shared on LinkedIn by Diess. He made it clear there was no collaboration in the works with Tesla.
Overall it looks like Diess was impressed with the Model Y and Volkswagen is ready to enter the EV market with its new platform, as the ID.3 and ID.4 are expected to start production soon for customers in Europe.
