Musk first referenced a Tesla-themed tequila in an April Fool’s joke where he acted as if Tesla had gone bankrupt. The joke was made on April 1, 2018, and went viral immediately. In the tweet, Musk acted as if he was depressed at Tesla’s bankruptcy and had been drinking as a result.

On July 3rd, Musk tweeted that Teslaquila was “coming soon”, but some Tesla fans weren’t sure whether he was joking or not. Given the fact that Musk actually ended up selling short shorts, more Twitter users began inquiring about the tequila.
Musk may be serious about Teslaquila, as he tweeted again today about the product. This time, Musk tweeted in response to a Teslerati article stating that Teslaquila might be coming. His response was that he planned on tackling “Big Tequila”, and added: “It’s real.”
