Tesla Model 3 in China Gets Range Increase to 395 Miles
Tesla continues to make headway in the Chinese marketplace. Following some unsavory challenges with coronavirus shutdowns in North America, the electric vehicle maker took the chance to increase its presence in the Asian market. With new technological experiments and a public that’s amenable to electric vehicles, Tesla looks to further enhance its Chinese made vehicles. New announcements from the company show an increased range on the Tesla China-made Model 3.
As of yesterday, Tesla announced the new range figures on its Weibo account. Electrek shared a Google Translated version of the announcement, which stated,
“Today, we released the national standard operating range of Model 3 high-performance all-wheel drive version (made in China) on the official website. The cruising range test result is 635km.
Thanks to Tesla’s continuous product improvement, the Model 3 high-performance all-wheel-drive version (made in China) has achieved a certain cruising range while maintaining the same high level of performance.”
The cruising range test result for the made-in-China Model 3 is 635km or 395 miles, but it’s based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) driving cycle, which is not considered as close as real-world driving estimates from the U.S. EPA. Currently, Tesla’s Model 3 AWD Performance version is rated at 318 miles or 518 km range, based on the EPA’s real-world driving estimates.
Chinese Tesla customers continued to show their support for the Model 3 even amidst the coronavirus. Sales reports showed that sales of the China-made Model 3 tripled from April to May. The announcement of improved range only serves to further draw public attention to the vehicle. Tesla also made the news a few weeks ago with talks of using a different type of battery for vehicles made in its Chinese factories.
