Tesla Cancelled Orders from Paying Solar Roof Customers: Report
Many people seem to forget that a major part of Tesla’s business lies in its solar roof technology. Sure, the company’s vehicles tend to receive most of the praise in the media, but Tesla’s green energy initiatives have seen some major improvements lately. However, in a recent setback for the company, several customers had their solar roof orders cancelled after placing down payments.
Fox Business reported on the story, stating that Tesla “told those customers in an email that their homes are not located within Tesla’s service areas…” The article explores the email. “Upon further review, your home is not located within our currently planned service territory. The driving distance from our closest warehouse would make it difficult for us to provide you with the high-quality service that our customers deserve. For this reason, we will not be able to proceed with your project,” according to emails seen by Electrek.
Tesla offered full refunds to all the affected customers. Even though Tesla didn’t explain the larger reasons behind the cancellations, many assume that the coronavirus is responsible. The outbreak affected Tesla severely over the course of the first half of 2020. It seems its effects continue to linger, both for Tesla’s vehicle production, and its solar energy projects.
