Tesla’s electric vehicle software receives constant updates. Their unique over the air delivery system allows for drivers to implement new features through system-wide software updates with minimal hassle. Some recent changes to the structural code makes for faster, more efficient software update additions. Earlier in the year, software update 2020.8.1 saw some significant changes to Autopilot visualization. Another update added pedestrian animations for a more immersive Autopilot driving experience.
In the most recent software update, 2020.20.12, some users are uncertain about the actual changes being made. As the update became available not even 24 hours ago, users are still completing the download and trying things out. However, a lack of thorough release notes from Tesla has users speculating.
On Tesla Motors Club, one user Daniellane suspects that the update is merely around to iron out some kinks from a previous software update. “Must be some bug fixes to 2020.20.5. I received this update on both my model S and my Model 3 within minutes of each other.” There’s also evidence to support this idea in the fact that the last update was not out very long. Usually, when Tesla releases a rapid software update, it’s there to fix some small issues from a previous update.
