Tesla 2020.8.1 Update: Canada Gets Full Self Driving Visualization Preview and More

Tesla is rolling out its 2020.8 software update, which brings Full Self Driving visualizations for vehicles with hardware 3 (HW3) hardware in Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Full Self Driving visualizations were previously available only in the United States, allowing those with to see visualizations on their Tesla vehicle’s screen, such as stop signs, stop lights, cones, trash cans and street pavement signs.

Also new in this update, according to information dug up by @greentheonly is support for third-party charging, improved regenerative braking for Model S and Model X ‘long range’ cars, along with track mode and Bluetooth improvements. There’s also track mode for Model 3 owners.

The 2020.8.1 update also brings exFAT file system support for USB flash drives used for dashcam and music, and “new manual page on alerts, yet another charge port, update to steering rack firmware,” explains @thegreenonly.

Back in December 2019, Tesla released its holiday software update which brought a sneak preview of Full Self Driving Visualizations, showing stop signs, red and green lights, select road markings and more on your Tesla’s display. Check out what it looks like in the video below:

Again, only Tesla models with a hardware 3 full self driving (HW3 FSD) computer will get these new visualizations. While this makes for Autopilot to look even better, your Tesla still relies on human interaction to be operated safely when it sees a red light or stop sign, so be aware still.
