Leaked Email at Tesla Points to Model Y Production Problems
The Tesla Model Y released earlier this year, with some of the first deliveries beginning in March in The United States. Since that point, electric vehicle enthusiasts and automobile reviewers have shared lavish praise for the vehicle’s many innovative design features. The marketplace has also had a positive response to Tesla’s latest offering. However, a new email sent to Tesla employees hints at some troubles in the production process of the Model Y.
Of course, the coronavirus outbreak continues to cause problems for Tesla production. While Tesla began ramping up production of the Model Y at its main facility in Fremont, California, local health and safety ordinances forced the factory to close for some time. Even though the company received permission to reopen, they’re still feeling the effects of such a long closure at the factory.
The leaked email sent to Tesla employees by CEO Elon Musk highlights some Model Y production problems. As Electrek reports, “It is extremely important for us to ramp up Model Y production and minimize rectification needs. I want you to know that it really makes a difference to Tesla right now. Model Y, especially GA (stands for General Assembly), is the top priority for both production and manufacturing engineering. GA4 (stands for General Assembly Line 4) is also top priority for facility improvements. For those working in GA4, thank you for bearing with tough conditions. Will get better fast. I will be walking the line personally every week.”
The email also cites issues with the supply chain affecting Model Y production. Supply chains were interrupted earlier in the year in Tesla’s Shanghai factory. Even so, the company continues to ramp up Model Y production, and the email closes on an optimistic note.
Despite the production problems, it appears Model Y deliveries are still slated to be delivered in Canada, with vehicles confirmed to be on the ground at stores in Vancouver.
