Tesla Autopilot continues to upgrade in performance and application. More and more drivers put the system to the test with new software updates. One of the more popular recent updates, a beta test mode called Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, attracted some particular attention from Tesla drivers. Tesla owners posted a slew of videos showcasing some peculiar tests on the new Autopilot feature. Now in a new video from The Tech of Tech, viewers get some insights into how Tesla Autopilot performs on a longer drive.
As the video title points out, the vehicle here performs the drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway entirely on Autopilot. As anyone familiar with major roads in the United States knows, the Blue Ridge Parkway constitutes no small feat. However, at 45.9 miles (73.8 km) and 79 minutes performed entirely in Tesla Autopilot, the drive makes for an interesting test of the system.
The driving conditions in the video also display some unique environmental challenges. For one, the highway situates at an elevation, and there’s some significant fog and mist to navigate. Furthermore, the Blue Ridge Parkway lends itself to sharp curves and steep inclines at points. As the video points out, a new software update introducing slowing for sharp curves is solely responsible for the completion of the drive in a safe, effective manner.
