Tesla Engineers Showcase Tesla Ventilator in New Video

The coronavirus continues to ramp up in the United States and elsewhere. Amidst news of hospitals reporting equipment shortages, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla announced that they would be producing ventilators for hospitals. However, not much was known about the specifics of the Tesla ventilators. Everything from information on their materials to how they functioned remained a mystery until now. In a video posted by Tesla engineers, viewers get a complete walk through on the new Tesla ventilators.

As the video emphasizes, the Tesla ventilator design uses ideas implemented in Tesla electric vehicle parts. This familiarity gives engineers a greater range when developing ventilators for medical applications. Because the manufacturing of medical equipment represents a new venture for Tesla, it’s helpful for engineers to apply working knowledge from the company’s flagship products.

A schematic showcases all the areas where Tesla vehicle parts are used. A walk through shows an oxygen supply run through a mixing chamber. Some Tesla enthusiasts may notice the chamber, because it’s a part common in Tesla’s electric vehicles. A series of sensors then route the air mixture out into a filter. From there, the air enters the patient’s lungs to support their breathing. Exhale pipes reverse the process to regulate lung pressure.

Tesla drivers will also notice the Model 3 display system mounted on the new ventilators. As Tesla engineers mention in the video, the design allows for quick and simple construction. Making use of existing vehicle parts and designs, Tesla ventilators provide a straight forward medical solution.
