Tesla Loses Its Director of Manufacturing
Jatinder “Jat” Dhillon, the director of Manufacturing for Tesla, Inc., has recently left his position at the company.
According to sources at CNBC, the reason for Dhillon’s separation from the company is unclear at this point. However, the timing for his departure is not exactly ideal for Tesla. Dhillon worked at Tesla for over seven years. In these years, he was credited with developing Tesla’s seat manufacturing in a separate production facility. He also led the Tesla manufacturing team as they increased their production on the Model 3 throughout much of 2018 and 2019.
Tesla has a lot to juggle at the moment. Losing its director of manufacturing adds one more layer of complexity. Tesla is currently working to roll out deliveries of the Model Y. The company also recently began making room for another manufacturing center in Berlin, Germany. All this comes at a time where the economic climate is uncertain due to the coronavirus outbreak and plummeting crude oil prices.
Furthermore, Tesla has started its search for the right location for a new Gigafactory in the US to manufacture its Cybertruck. Jatinder Dhillon was certainly a productive piece of the Tesla team at the factory in Fremont, California. He was one of few employees that reported directly to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
