Tesla’s comeback in Germany picked up speed in October.

New registrations jumped 290.9% year over year to 2,932 vehicles, according to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), following a 268% surge in September.

From January through October, Tesla registered 47,742 vehicles in Germany, up 206.1% from the same period last year. That works out to a 1.9% share of the market so far this year.

Chinese rivals still came out ahead last month. BYD registered 5,173 vehicles in October for a 2.0% share, while Leapmotor posted 3,661 registrations, up 288.6%, for a 1.4% share. Tesla’s October share was 1.2%.

Year to date, BYD sits at 47,961 registrations, just 219 units ahead of Tesla.

Germany’s EV market as a whole kept growing. KBA data shows 94,086 new battery electric vehicles were registered in October, up 79.5%, giving BEVs a 37.0% share of the 254,492 cars registered during the month.

Back in March, Tesla North reported that Tesla Germany set an all-time record as registrations quadrupled. The company has also been showing off its Cybercab on a European tour this month.

Will Tesla pass BYD in Germany before the year is out? Let us know in the comments.
