Air Tahiti Nui has signed a deal with SpaceX to equip its entire fleet with free Starlink Wi-Fi, the French Polynesian airline said Tuesday. It expects to bring the service onboard in 2027.
It joins carriers such as United Airlines that are putting SpaceX’s cabin internet on every jet.
The carrier said the agreement covers every aircraft and every travel class, with service from takeoff to landing and no charge for passengers.
Passengers will get ultra-high-speed, low-latency connectivity at about 25 to 30 milliseconds, plus uninterrupted coverage over oceans and near the poles, according to the airline.
Lionel Guérin, CEO of Air Tahiti Nui, said the airline is investing because passengers now treat cabin connectivity as part of a successful trip. “Our passengers place their trust in our airline. They expect us to provide a flawless in-flight experience,” he said. “Since high-speed connectivity is now a fundamental part of a successful trip, we are naturally investing in this service, which truly matters to them, so that Air Tahiti Nui remains synonymous with excellence, comfort, and innovation, in line with the most rigorous standards of our industry.”
The airline did not say which aircraft types go first, how many jets it flies, or when the last plane will be finished.
From Tahiti, Air Tahiti Nui flies to Paris, Los Angeles, Auckland, Sydney, and Tokyo, and it reaches about 90 airports through codeshare partners. It adds to a growing list of airlines, including easyJet and Southwest Airlines, that Tesla North has covered committing to fleetwide Starlink rollouts.
Would free gate-to-gate Starlink on a Tahiti long-haul flight change which airline you book?
